More than 200 members of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) hailing from Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala regions of Pakistan's Punjab province have announced that they will go on strike from March 1, 2012, to protest discriminate gas supply in the province.
APTPMA Vice Chairman Sheikh Abdul Rashid said the protest is against the 14 to 16-hour shutdown of electricity supply in the province, by electricity distribution companies.
He said the government has issued orders for suspension of gas supply to textile sector in three regions of the province, for five days a week.
During the remaining days, gas is supplied at low pressure, which is not enough to run the machines, he added.
