Textile industries located in and around the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu suffered a production loss of about Rs. 3-3.5 billion on the first day of implementation of the additional power holiday, according to Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA).

The region of Coimbatore accounts for around 40 percent of total yarn production in Tamil Nadu.

The industries of the region demanded an additional full-day power holiday to get rid of frequent power cuts on a daily basis, and agreed to cooperate with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) Ltd. to improve the power situation and tide over the severe power crisis.

The textile unit owners expect that the power holiday would enable them to get uninterrupted power for the remaining days of the week. However, the exact impact of the power holiday would only be known after a week of monitoring of load shedding or power cuts.

Meanwhile, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has requested TANGEDCO Ltd. to change the power holiday declared for the Tirupur Region from Friday to Saturday, as it would be convenient for the workers, mostly outsiders, to go to their native places and return for the work on Monday, with Sunday already under power holiday.
