Pakistan's textile exports down

Exports of textiles from Pakistan declined to US$ 9.02 billion, during the first nine months of current financial year that began on July 1, 2012, according to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The country's textile exports dropped by 9.4 percent compared to exports of US$ 9.95 billion achieved during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
During the July-March 2011-12 period, cotton yarn exports from Pakistan dipped by 25.5 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.26 billion, cotton fabric by 4.6 percent to US$ 1.75 billion, knitwear by 12.4 percent to US$ 1.47 billion, readymade garments by 2 percent to US$ 1.203 billion and bed wear by 12.7 percent to US$ 1.31 billion.
Similarly, the exports of yarn other than cotton yarn decreased by 4.4 percent year-on-year to US$ 31.5 million, art, silk and synthetic textiles by 5 percent to US$ 414 million and carded and combed cotton by 73 percent to US$ 8.04 million during the nine month period.
The exports of towels fell by 7.8 percent y-o-y to US$ 492.6 million and those of made up articles (excluding bed wear and towels) slowed by 9.4 percent to US$ 411.4 million during the period under review.
Raw cotton and tents, canvas and tarpaulin were the only textiles that saw an increase in their export value during the first three quarters of 2011-12. While exports of raw cotton grew by 31 percent y-o-y to US$ 362 million, the exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin rose by 125 percent to US$ 68.8 million.
Textile exports constituted around 52.47 percent of Pakistan's total exports of US$ 17.19 billion achieved during the period.
The country's textile exports dropped by 9.4 percent compared to exports of US$ 9.95 billion achieved during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
