The central Indian state of Jharkhand has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Government of India's plan to set up two mega handloom clusters in the country.

Mr. Dhirendra Kumar, Managing Director of Jharkhand Silk Textile & Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd. (Jharcraft), told fibre2fashion, “The Government of India has sanctioned two mega handloom cluster projects this year – one each for Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.”

Informing further about the project, he says, “Under the project, the Government will give a grant of Rs. 700 million. It is a huge project and will benefit at least 100,000 weavers in Jharkhand.”

Jharcraft is expected to be the nodal agency for implementation of the mega handloom cluster project in Jharkhand.

“If Jharcraft is selected for implementation of the mega project, we plan to make it the best handloom cluster in the country,” Mr. Kumar said.
