Mr. Michael Moore
Michael Moore, the Secretary of State for Scotland and Hawick MP, has hailed the textile apprenticeship scheme launched by the local textile manufacturers, tagging it as a “fantastic advert” for the town.
The Skillset Apprentice Scheme, launched by textile manufacturers of the Scottish Borders council area town Hawick in association with Skillset, in October last year, is aimed at preserving the textile industry of the town and encouraging the youth to join the industry and providing them the required training.
Skillset, which was set up by Robin Deas from House of Cheviot and Mike Wilson of the Scottish Borders Exporters' Association, now has several knitwear producers from the Scottish Borders and Hawick as its members.
As a part of his visit to local knitwear firms including Peter Scott, Hawick Cashmere and the Textile Towerhouse, Secretary of State Moore met apprentices and leading knitwear industry people, and gained a positive impression about functioning of the scheme.
Mr. Moore said that the young apprentices in Peter Scott and Hawick Cashmere are a great advert for the town. He said the apprentices are fully engrossed in learning new skills, are totally committed to their work and are visibly excited by the training imparted to them.
He said he is happy to see that the partnership for imparting training, which is now recognized across the nation as a model co-operative, has started reaping results.
