Südwolle Group, the world's market leader for worsted spun yarn for weaving, circular and flat knitting in pure wool and wool blends, has obtained Class I and Class II Oeko-Tex certification, which certifies that the yarn produced by the company does not contain any of over 300 substances considered to be detrimental for humans.

Class I Oeko-Tex certification obtained by the German company certifies that the products produced by it satisfy the most stringent requirements for items for infant use, while the Class II certification warrants sustainability of textile and apparel items.

Achieving the certification comes as a part of the comprehensive sustainability and product quality programme of the company, which has placed it a step ahead in the yarn market.

The Südwolle Group is an independent family owned firm having six main brands, namely, Yarn in Motion, a specialist producer of circular wool knitting yarn that goes in production of outdoor and functional apparels; Biella Yarn, producer of yarn for flat knitting; Richter, a leading supplier of speciality yarns for hosiery; Südwolle, a specialized producer of weaving yarns; Soey, a supplier of OE rayon yarns; and Stöhr, a specialist supplier of technical yarns catering to the automobile industry, for upholstery and other specifications.

The company specializes in quick responses, as it undertakes production at the closest of the productions facilities in Germany, Romania, Poland and China, to cater to demand of the markets in those particular geographical regions.

Each year, the firm produces around 21,000 tons of yarn, about 60 percent of which is consumed in Europe, while the rest is shipped to Asia. Moreover, the firm's global sales network works in close proximity with its consumer base.

Goetz Giebel of Südwolle Group says they adhere to Oeko-Tex testing and certification to ascertain that the consistency of purity of their yarn is retained across all production stages, from the farm to spinning and dyeing.

He said the consumers and retailers have high hopes on quality of their wool yarns and they are committed to satisfy their expectations, and Oeko-Tex is a key component of that assurance.

Besides, Oeko-Tex certification, the Südwolle Group also undertakes other efforts to nurture its zeal for environmental and social sustainability.

For instance, it participates in the Global Retailing Initiative (GRI) that extends guidelines for responsible reporting of environmental and sustainability metrics. Moreover, it also publishes its Ecobalance annual report presenting an idea regarding its environmental, social responsibility and international sustainable manufacturing initiatives.
