The government of Nigeria's Kogi state would extend all possible assistance to cotton growers in the state by providing them access to all such facilities that can enhance their crop productivity.

The assurance was given by Governor Idris Wada during a meeting with representatives of National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), who are currently on tour of Kogi and other South-West states of Nigeria.

The Kogi state Secretary of NACOTAN, Victor Akubo, urged the government to help the association in making provision for tractors, fertilizers and credit facilities to enhance production.

Praising the state government for its assistance to the sector, South-West President of NACOTAN, Mrs. Lola Adeoye, urged it to prioritize cotton production in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, his Deputy Arc Yomi Awoniyi, said the state's transformation agenda prioritizes agricultural sector, with a special focus on enhancing cotton productivity, in which the state enjoys a comparative advantage.

The Governor assured that his government would increase its focus on agriculture in the state by generating a favourable environment for cotton cultivation as there are great prospects for it to flourish in the state, owing to vast arable land and rich soil.

If due attention is paid, agriculture has a potential to enhance the state's revenue and help offset the waning monthly statutory allocation from the federation account.
