Leading Salvadoran textile and garment companies participated and shared their experiences at the recently held annual meeting of American Apparel Producers' Network (AAPN) in Miami, Florida.

The companies that participated in the AAPN meeting were Darlington Fabrics, George C. Moore Co., CS Central America, TExOps, Unifi, Apparel Production Services (APS), Pettenati and ProDept.

These firms decided to promote best practices and make changes in their business culture to adapt themselves to World Trade Organization (WTO) and US standards, and thus benefit the Salvadoran textile and clothing sector.

George C. Moore and Darlington Fabrics have helped increase the capacity of the Central American region to locally source elastic tape and stretch fabrics used by companies that manufacture innerwear, sportswear, medical orthopedic clothing, industrial and military uniforms and high-performance swimwear, said Dana Barlow, CEO of The Moore Company at the meeting.

Last year, the El Salvadoran textile and apparel exports rose by 20.5 percent year-on-year to US$ 8.172 million. This shows that the country's textile and clothing sector had made a slow but gradual recovery since the 2008 global economic crisis.
