In March 2012, SGS has started its fifth overseas business partnership with Japans leading textile testing and inspection organization BOKEN. The Jakarta regional hub is an addition to the current BOKEN overseas representatives at SGS in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guangzhou and Hangzhou, facilitating a convenient one-stop service solution for brands to source from Indonesia and other ASEAN countries as part of the “China Plus One” sourcing model.

The textiles and garment industry in Indonesia is currently experiencing a period of rapid growth as it becomes an active hub for the sourcing of textile products by leading firms from across the globe. With such growth there comes an increasing demand for a one-stop service solution and SGS has once again teamed up with BOKEN Quality Evaluation Institute (BQE) to create this solution. In March 2012, BOKEN's ninth overseas centre, which is located within the SGS laboratory in Jakarta, Indonesia, has opened to new clients and provides the capability for physical and chemical testing to the textile and garment industry.

This new capability offers a full spectrum of testing, inspections and audits with services including physical and colorfastness testing, functional quality testing, fiber analysis, and restricted substances testing. The textile testing laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025 by the National Accreditation Body of Indonesia, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and can provide physical and chemical tests to determine if products meet international and national standards such as ISO, BS, DIN, AATCC, ASTM, CPSC etc.

Formerly known as the Japan Spinners Inspecting Foundation, BOKEN is Japan's leading general testing and inspection organization. It was established in 1948 to promote the export and overall quality of textile products and conducts inspections, testing and research with a focus on textiles.

Since 1989, BOKEN and SGS have enjoyed a close business partnership. This latest collaboration combines the global technical expertise of both companies, in the textile and garment industry, used to produce a range of world class physical and chemical testing services. The new laboratory offers comprehensive testing services that complement SGS's global network of textile laboratories in Europe, Asia and Americas.

Mr. Hayato Horiba, president of BOKEN, speaks of the “trusted relationship” SGS and BOKEN have built through their respective business collaborations. Such collaborations reflect a commitment to quality and will help to cultivate the regional growth of local Indonesian textile and garment manufacturers.

SGS is the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. SGS is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. With more than 70,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 1,350 offices and laboratories around the world.
