Number of foreign visitors on rise at Proposte

The 104 exhibitors at Proposte welcomed 6,363 visitors, only 14 fewer than last year, with a constantly increasing proportion of foreign arrivals. This year they represented 64.5% of the total, up on last year's 61%.
This is one of the most significant pieces of data from the XXth edition of Proposte, the World Preview of Furnishings Fabrics and Curtains, which ended at Cernobbio, once again establishing the event's international credentials.
The 5.6% rise in the number of foreign visitors offset the predictable 9.3% fall in the Italian contingent caused by the current stagnation in the national market.
The quality of the national and international operators attending Cernobbio was extremely high, satisfying the exhibitors who made great efforts to compete on the global scale and to identify new uses for fabrics and curtains in the residential, contract and outdoor sectors.
As usual, Germany provided the largest number of foreign arrivals, with a presence of 564 visitors, a rise of 6.4%. This was followed by Great Britain with 432 (+3.2%) and the United States with 372 (+14.5%).
The figures for a number of countries showed a two or even three figure percentage rise, including China, Japan, Taiwan, India, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. The attached tables give a detailed breakdown of where visitors came from and the professional categories they belong to.
Surveying trends:
For the first time this year an in-house stylistic team photographed, described and studied for every exhibitor the products considered to be most representative of the new collections and the most innovative in structure, design and colour.
Celebrating Proposte's 20th year:
Together with exhibitors, visitors, journalists and guests, on the evening of 9 May we celebrated the first twenty years of Proposte. A concert by musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic was greatly enjoyed by all present, and the programme gradually increased in tempo to culminate in the famous Radetzky March.
The next Proposte will take place at Villa Erba, Cernobbio on 7, 8 and 9 May 2013.
