France would soon showcase a carpet prepared by craftsmen of Iran’s South Khorasan Province.

The carpet, a token of peace from people of south-eastern Iran, would be unveiled during the commemoration ceremony of Iranian mathematician and astronomer Abdolali Birjandi, in Paris.

The ceremony would form a part of the programme featuring the art and culture of Iran’s South Khorasan Province, the birth place of the late scientist.

The peace carpet measuring 138x100 centimetres has been prepared by five artisans, who used 30 colours to weave the carpet.

In addition to exquisite designs of well-known places of Iran’s South Khorasan Province’s Birjand city, the carpet also incorporates UN and UNESCO logos, and portrays Persepolis and Tehran’s Azadi Tower.

Finding its roots in ancient Persian culture, carpet-weaving is one of the most distinguished expressions of Persian art and culture.

Iran houses around 1.2 million weavers, who prepare carpets that cater to local as well as international markets.

Iran exports its handwoven carpets to over 100 countries, which is one of the leading non-oil exports of the country.

According to experts, quality attributes as well as the unique colour and design pattern of the Persian carpets are the main reasons for these carpets being in great demand across the globe.
