Demand up for Chinese handmade carpets

Demand for hand woven carpets in China’s domestic and overseas market has been surging in recent years. Even, European and American buyers have turned their sights on China.

Handmade carpets are favored by domestic market, in addition to increasing level of income; it is also closely related with people's general value of cultural quality and aesthetic appeal in modern society.

Machine woven carpets have only 10 colors at most, while handmade ones can have 30 colors. In global markets, sales of hand woven carpets are rising mainly due to quality advantage over woven ones.

China, India, Iran, and Turkey are the largest producers and major exporters of hand woven carpets. Relatively low labor costs and mass production of same pattern products provide a significant price advantage.

China's price of a single unit is generally only one-fifth of the price of similar product in Iran. Coupled with Chinese characteristics in design, China's exports of handmade carpets continue to grow.

In Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and other cities, handmade carpets are appearing in more and more high-end homes and villas, as a number of interior designers have begun to regard handmade carpets as a necessary element.
