Tajikistan textiles & apparel output skyrockets

The production of textiles and garments in Tajikistan has increased by 90 percent to 528.3 million somoni (US$ 111 million) during the initial five months of the current year, compared to the corresponding period of 2011, according to the data released by the Ministry of Energy and Industry.
The rise in textiles and garment production is due to hike in production of cotton, cotton fabric and other items.
However, the value of Tajikistan’s textiles and clothing exports fell marginally by 1.6 percent year-on-year, during January-May 2012 period.
In 2011, Tajikistan produced textiles and clothing items worth 1.4 billion somoni (US$ 292.3 million).
