China's textile & apparel exports to Japan swell

The exports of textiles and garments from China to Japan increased in May this year, according to statistics from Chinese customs.
 
During the month, Chinese textile exports to Japan fetched US$ 400 million, registering an increase of 0.98 percent year-on-year, while apparel exports were worth US$ 1.4 billion, showing an increase of 4.21 percent year-on-year.
 
From January to May 2012, China exported textiles to Japan worth US$ 2 billion, posting a rise of 3.46 percent year-on-year, while its clothing exports earned US$ 8.5 billion, up 4.7 percent y-o-y.
 
Among textiles, yarn exports registered US$ 196 million, up 2.67 percent year-on-year, fabric exports fetched US$ 256 million, down 15.85 percent y-o-y, and home textiles exports earned US$ 773 million, up 4.17 percent y-o-y.
 
Among apparel sub-sectors, exports of knitted garments to Japan registered US$ 3.711 billion, an increase of 5.02 percent year-on-year, woven garment exports earned US$ 3.881 billion, a rise of 3.21 percent y-o-y, and exports of clothing accessories fetched US$ 649 million, up 9.29 percent y-o-y.
 
From January to May, overall exports of cotton products to Japan declined in value, of which, exports of cotton yarn and cotton fabrics fell significantly by 32.19 percent y-o-y and 27.73 percent y-o-y, respectively.
 
However, exports of knitted garments made from synthetic fabrics increased considerably by 16.39 percent y-o-y during the five month period.
