Export volumes of majority of the petrochemical items from South Korea grew during June this year, as per the official data.

According to the data, around 29 percent of June 2012’s total benzene exports, equalling to 40,570 tons, were towards the US, as producers cashed in on the open arbitrage window to the US, where it is possible to sell aromatics product at higher price.

South Korean ethylene exports for June 2012 posted a year-on-year rise of 8 percent to grow to 85,972 tons, while its propylene exports for the period grew by 38 percent y-o-y to 108,886 tons, KITA said.

Paraxylene (PX) exports increased by 54 percent over last year to 229,741 tons during June this year, while polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports surged by 43 percent y-o-y to 71,161 tons.

However, purified terephthalic acid (PTA) exports registered negative growth during the review period and they slumped by 18 percent from June 2011’s 301,453 tons to 248,147 tons in June this year.
