Chinese textile exports may see slight rebound in Q3

Textile and garment exports from China may witness a slight rebound in the third quarter of this year due to the approaching Christmas shopping season in Europe and the US, in spite of continued uncertainties in some countries and a weak global consumer market, according to industry analysts.

According to the China General Administration of Customs, in July this year, China exported textiles and apparels worth US$ 23.889 billion, a drop of 8.1 percent year-on-year. Of which, exports of textiles, including yarn and fabrics, reached US$ 8.002 billion, a dip of 8.05 percent year-on-year, while exports of clothing and accessories achieved US$ 15.887 billion, down 8.13 percent year-on-year.

Clearly, the continued recession in Europe had negative impact on China’s textile and garment exports.

However, some industry experts opine that China’s exports of textiles and garments will have an opportunity to rebound during August and September months because of the approaching Christmas shopping season in Europe and the US.

According to analysts, the third quarter will be the active phase of export orders for the garment industry, but apparel exports will face more challenges in the long term.
