Indian textile delegation in Sri Lanka to boost trade

A high-level Indian textile delegation has arrived in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo to strengthen bilateral textile and garment trade between the two countries.
 
The delegation, which is on a three-day visit to the island nation, comprises of both high-ranking Government officials and representatives of major private sector textile and apparel companies.
 
Cited as the biggest ever delegation of Indian textile industry representatives to visit Sri Lanka, the visiting team consists of high-ranking Ministry of Textiles officials Mrs. Kiran Dhingra, V. Srinivas, Mrs. Sunaina Tomar and JP Dutt. 
 
The delegation also includes representatives of various textile and apparel associations such as Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), and Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL).
 
Also included in the delegation are representatives of apparel producers and exporters like Modelama Exports Ltd., Mafatlal Denim Ltd., Richa Group, Trendsetters Ltd., and Sri Gomathy Mills Pvt. Ltd.
 
Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industry and Trade expressed hope that the visit will help Sri Lanka to further expand its apparel exports to India.
 
Last year, Sri Lanka exported US$ 50 million worth of textiles and clothing items to India, of which, garment exports alone accounted for US$ 25.56 million.
