A textile manufacturing plant, the biggest as of date in Venezuela, has opened in Maracaibo, the second-largest city in Venezuela.

The textile unit, named Inbortex textile factory, has an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons of materials, according to Ricardo Menendez, Minister for Industries.

The government has invested Bs 41 million in the textile unit, which forms a part of the strategic objective of President Hugo Chavez to rebuild the textile industry in the country that was destroyed in the 1990s.

Inbortex would produce six varieties of fabrics using machines imported from Brazil and China.

The opening of the textile manufacturing unit has resulted in creation of 50 direct jobs, which are likely to increase to 300.
