Adoption of modern marketing channels can greatly help in boosting the state’s handloom sales, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Industries and Commerce SS Slathia has said.

Unveiling the revamped Handloom Showroom at Silk Weaving Factory in the state, he said adoption of modern techniques like appointing travel agents and tourist guides on commission basis for marketing and promoting the state’s handloom items could produce great results.

As he went through different stalls at the showroom, he instructed the concerned officials to display hoardings providing information regarding handloom items under the ‘POSHISH’ brand at various tourist destinations, so as to raise awareness among tourists regarding the new offerings of the sector.

He said handloom artisans should try to make high-quality products which are in demand and have a tendency to draw buyers, thus helping them to earn handsome returns.

To draw large number of customers, it is essential that quality fabrics with innovative designs and attractive colour schemes be produced and offered at affordable rates, he added.
