Indian textile and apparel exporters hope that the re-election of Barack Obama as the US President will be good for the Indian textile industry and will improve the relationships between the two countries.

Mr. M Rafeeque Ahmed, president of Federation of Indian Export Organizations, told fibre2fashion, “This will be good for the textile industry. Currently, Indian exports to the US market are growing at a pace of 15 percent per annum, whereas exports to other countries are declining at 10 percent per year. Since Mr. Obama is re-elected, we hope that the current growth trend in Indian exports to the US will continue.”

“It is a good sign that US citizens have re-elected Mr. Barack Obama and we are expecting more textile and garment orders from the US”, says Mr. S Sivananthan, secretary of Textile and Garments Exporters Association, Erode.

Echoing the same sentiments, Mr. A Sakthivel, chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council, Obama’s re-election will bring prosperity to the entire Indian economy.

“Mr. Barrack Obama is a very friendly person to India and his policies will help Indian exporters, including apparel exporters”, he adds.

Dr. Geeta Mahale, Prof & Sr. Scientist at Dept of Textile and Apparel Designing, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, opines, “Definitely, it is going to have a positive impact on Indian textile exports and we are going to get good income from the US as we will be getting good business from the country”, says.
