Skirtings eased on Tuesday, with the greatest falls also at the fine end and the least among the medium wools.  Thursday’s market saw good gains that appeared to be strongest in the South. Crossbred wools opened the week in a downward direction, steadied on Wednesday and made gains on Thursday.  However, the gains were not enough to cancel the early falls.  Oddments fell early in the week before moving up as the market strengthened on Wednesday and Thursday.

Buyers for China were dominant this week, followed by strong support from buyers for India.  Buying support from Europe was more subdued this week.

Sales will be held in Newcastle, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 49,617 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 22 and 23) are 54,650 and 50,600 bales, respectively; an increase of 12.1% over the three sale period when compared with last year. The New Zealand Merino Company is rostered to offer 2,570 bales in Week 22.
