AWEX wool indicator finishes marginally up this week

Skirtings had a good week, with prices generally building on last Thursday’s market.  Crossbreds on offer were mostly on offer in Melbourne, with the North selling in Newcastle this week.  Their average Micron Price Guide (MPGs) moved up by small amounts, other than at 26 microns.  There usually only a small amount of wool available in this range; and prices can fluctuate.  It was a good week for oddments with prices firm or moving up.

Buyers for China were dominant this week, followed by strong support from buyers for Europe and India.  There was a strong presence of buyers for Italy at the Newcastle sale.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 55,340 bales are currently rostered for sale.  Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 23 and 24) are 48,100 and 49,100 bales, respectively; an increase of 9.1% over the three sale period when compared with last year. The New Zealand Merino Company is rostered to offer 2,900 bales in Melbourne next week and 1,000 bales in Week 24.
