Nov '12
As per the estimates, deals worth US$ 58 million were finalized at the international textile and apparel fair Vastra-2012, which concluded last week at Jaipur in Rajasthan.
The event, which now would be held on a yearly basis, drew participation of more than 360 buyers from 61 countries.
Sunil Arora, Principal Secretary Industries and Chairman, Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO), said the event has provided a very good platform to textile players of the state and it is now up to them to think how they can carry forward these gains.
He said if proper steps are initiated the textile industry of the state has the potential to achieve a turnover of US$ 750-1000 million over the next five years. This can be easily achieved with active support of entire textile business fraternity of Rajasthan, he added.
RIICO Managing Director Naveen Mahajan said the event received great response from the textile community and it is estimated that deals worth US$ 58 million were closed during the event.
He added that the final figure may go up as several exhibitors and buyers are yet to submit their final report on the last day of the event.
The expo hosted a record 3,128 B2B sessions, providing a platform for serious business talks, which are soon expected to turn into significant business deals, he mentioned.
The next edition of the fair – Vastra-2013 probably would be held in second half of 2013.
