Rwanda hosts its maiden fashion week

The recently concluded Rwanda’s debut sartorial fest ‘Kigali Fashion Week’ marked the entry of coming of age Rwandan style and fashion into the world’s official fashion map.
Nearly twelve designers from across the African continent, including Silas Anditi, Suhaa Schmitz, Gloria Wavamunno, Ruqaiyah Johnson and Lucy Rao, featured their colourful and vibrant creations at the fashion show.
Organized by the local company House of Fashion, the event also served as a platform for the country’s young and upcoming talents like Patrick Muhire, Colombe Ituze and Naleli Rugege to showcase their myriad collections.
Rwandan fashion designer Francis Iraguha from Francis Zahabu Couture presented his unique line titled ‘Africa/Rwanda fused with modern couture’, which featured a wide array of brightly coloured clothing in bold prints.
The New Times, Workforce Development Authority, Bamboo Restaurant and the Ministry of Sports and Culture co-sponsored the glitzy fashion event.
