Dastkari Haat Bazaar – a crafts and skill exchange programme between India and Pakistan, has begun at Delhi Haat, in New Delhi.

The intention underlying participation of Pakistani artisans in the 15-day skill exchange programme, forming a part of Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazaar, is to exchange views, skills, knowledge and techniques of colours, embroidery and designs with their Indian counterparts.

A special showcase of crafts of Pakistan’s Sindh region, mainly focusing on crochet and embroidery work, is the main highlight of the fair.

Organized by the Dastkari Haat Samiti, in association with a Pakistani NGO, the fair has received financial support from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

To enable Pakistani craftsmen to get in touch with Indian artisans, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), the apex body for promotion of Indian handicrafts, arranged the visit of Pakistani craftsmen to India, which enabled them to participate in the programme.

Addressing the programme participants, EPCH Executive Director Rakesh Kumar said the fair would provide artisans from both the countries a chance to share their skill, knowledge and experience, and evolve new ideas and techniques of embroidery and designs.
