China's 2012 cotton production likely to fall

The actual quantity of cotton production by China in calendar year 2012 is likely to decline 4.2 percent to 6.9 million tons, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.
 
The prediction is based on the data from the Ministry of Agriculture, which says cotton was grown on 72.55 million Mu (1 Mu = 0.066 hectare) of land in 2012, which is a decrease of 4 percent year-on-year or about 3.01 million Mu.
