Chinese cotton price gap hits record high in 2012

The average price gap between China’s domestic cotton and imported cotton widened and hit record highs in 2012.
 
From September to December 2011, the gap in prices of domestic and imported cotton in Chinese market was 2,410 yuan/ton. This gap increased to 3,638 yuan/ton during January to March 2012.
 
During late August to early September, average cotton price in China’s domestic market was 18,520 yuan/ton, while price of cotton imported from other countries was 13,060 yuan/ton, including one percent tariff and VAT. Thus, the price gap was 5,460 yuan/ton, which is a record, according to the statistics of the China Textile Industry Association.
