China's silk cocoon market shows upward trend in 2012

The prices of silk cocoon continued to increase throughout the last year in Chinese market, and the upward trend is continuing this year, on account of tight supply.
The spot price of silk 3A grade increased from 300,000 yuan/ton at the beginning of 2012 to nearly 366,000 yuan/ton at the end of the year, showing a jump of nearly 22 percent.
In the first quarter of 2012, the average price of dry cocoon was 90,000 yuan/ton, while the average prices of B grade silk and A grade silk were 320,000 yuan/ton and 340,000 yuan/ton, respectively.
In the second quarter of 2012, the average price of dry cocoon was 100,000 yuan/ton, while the average prices of B grade silk and A grade silk were 330,000 yuan/ton and 360,000 yuan/ton, respectively.
The average price of dry cocoon in the third quarter of 2012 was 110,000 yuan/ton, while that of B grade and A grade silks were 360,000 yuan/ton and 380,000 yuan/ton, respectively.
The prices of dry cocoon, B grade silk and A grade silk averaged 120,000 yuan/ton, 366,000 yuan/ton and 390,000 yuan/ton respectively in the last quarter of 2012.
Silk cocoon market continues with its upward trend in the 2013 and it is expected to rise further owing to tight supply.
