Port of Sohar, a deep sea port situated in the Sultanate of Oman, is planning for a land reclamation scheme ‘Majees Reclamation Project’ to create around 130 hectares of additional land for investment and development projects including a petrochemical project to produce Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and Poly Ethylene Terephthalate (PET) by Oman Oil Company and LG international.
The executive commercial manager of Sohar Industrial Port Company, Mr. Edwin Lammers said The Majees Reclamation Project will create around 130 hectares of additional land which will generate new development opportunities, Oman Observer reported.
According to him, within 24 to 30 months, new industrial development will take place in the reclaimed land including the PTA/PET project by Oman Oil Company and LG international.
The recently signed joined venture of petrochemical project is estimated to cost US$ 850 million and the plant will have the capacity to produce 1.1 million tonnes of PTA and 500,000 tonnes of PET annually. The plant is scheduled to start its operations by the end of 2016.
