The National Textile Research Centre, set up at a cost of Pk Rs. 55.6 million, at the National Textile University (NTU) in Faisalabad, has been inaugurated by Pakistan’s Minister for Textile Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin.

The first-of-its-kind textile research centre in Pakistan would undertake research on modern fibres and their use in making yarn and fabric.

The construction of the building for the research centre was completed within a record period at a cost of Rs. 21.6 million, while another Rs. 34 million were spent on procuring and installing necessary machinery and equipment, NTU Rector Dr. Niaz Ahmed said.

Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the textile research centre, Mr. Shahabuddin said despite all odds, Pakistan has managed to increase its exports by 20 percent year-on-year.

He said the Government is well aware of the existing problems, including the gas crisis, and a number of steps were being taken to resolve the issue.
