Saltic LLC FZE has started work for setting up of its world-class caustic soda and ethylene dichloride plant in the Sultanate of Oman.

Saltic has an industrial license from the Sultanate of Oman for setting up a petrochemical plant and it has also signed a 25-year lease, with options to extend, for 35 hectares of land with Salalah Free Zone.

The company has also recently signed an agreement with Dhofar Power Company for 150 MW of power supply for the project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2015.

The project, being set up with an investment of US$ 500 million, will be based on latest Membrane cell technology provided by a Japanese firm.

Once completed, the petrochemical complex will have a capacity to produce 1,000 tons of caustic soda and 1,231 tons of ethylene dichloride per day.

Caustic soda is used in several industries, including textiles, while ethylene dichloride finds use in textile coating and in technical textiles, along with other industries.

The project is expected to generate 400 new employment opportunities and will earn approximately US$ 350 million in foreign exchange for Oman.
