Arkema to discuss progress on nanostructured materials

Arkema launched the Genesis program in 2008, backed by OSEO, designed to bring together major industrial groups, SMEs and academic laboratories within a partnership for the development of new performance materials with a nanometric structure and their industrial applications. Several sectors were chosen for their technological innovation potential: automotive, cable manufacture, structural composites, energy, environment, and information and communication technologies.

Five years on, the success of the program has prompted Arkema to organize a conference at its Colombes offices, in the presence of a hundred representatives from the world of materials: manufacturers, academics and representatives from research funding agencies (OSEO as well as ADEME and ANR).

The outstanding performances – mechanical strength, thermal and electrical properties, light weight – of the materials in the Genesis program are indeed already reflected in technological advances in many applications: adhesives, polymer glazing, membranes, etc. Accordingly, this two-day conference will report on the results of the program and the performance potential of these materials in diverse applications such as plastics for cars, batteries, adhesives, polymer glazing, cable manufacture, and membranes for water treatment or the manufacture of integrated circuits.

The Genesis program also relies on a strong academic component, with major support from the scientific community: the result of various theses and PhD work involved in the program will also be unveiled during the two-day event.

Finally, in line with Arkema’s HSE policy, the Genesis program entails a major component relating to the toxicological and eco-toxicological properties of nanomaterials, and a synopsis of these research works will be presented.

A global chemical company and France’s leading chemicals producer, Arkema is building the future of the chemical industry every day. Deploying a responsible, innovation-based approach, we produce state-of-the-art specialty chemicals that provide customers with practical solutions to such challenges as climate change, access to drinking water, the future of energy, fossil fuel preservation and the need for lighter materials.

With operations in more than 40 countries, some 14,000 employees and 10 research centers, Arkema generates annual revenue of €6.4 billion, and holds leadership positions in all its markets with a portfolio of internationally recognized brands.
