Suggesting that Pakistan’s Foreign Policy should focus on trade, particularly on textile exports, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry  (FCCI) has called on the country’s newly-appointed envoys to build the country’s image in foreign countries to help it boost its exports.

At a meeting with representatives of FCCI, Mr. Sohail Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Thailand said it is an innovative step by the Foreign Ministry where it sends envoys to visit several chambers of commerce to allow them better understand the financial issues there and make efforts to boost exports to those countries during their term of office.

He said over 60 percent of the global trade is conducted within various regions, and hence they should try to make the most of geographical proximity and cultural and religious similarities that exist between Pakistan and Thailand.

The envoy said Pakistani exporters would be provided information regarding tariff and non-tariff barriers, customs duty and other duties, to enable them to increase their exports.

He backed the idea of organizing single country exhibitions and sending delegations. He said the Government plans to hold one more meeting of the Joint Commission this year, and would also be organizing a joint session to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Thailand.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador-designate to Cambodia, Amjad Ali Sher said Cambodia is a peaceful and developing nation and it would not be difficult for Pakistani exporters to negotiate their terms and launch joint ventures for export and re-export of finished and semi-finished items, particularly textile items.

Riaz Hussain Bukhari, Ambassador-designate to Uzbekistan assured full Government support to exporters, but added that there are some issues that exporters need to resolve.
