Spanish textile output drops 2% in Feb'13

The production of textile sector in Spain decreased by two percent year-on-year on the Industrial Production Index (IPI) in February 2013, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
 
Since July 2012, Spanish textile output has grown only three times in August, October and January, and has declined in other months. In January 2012, Spanish textile output had increased by 6.8 percent.
 
However, the decrease in textile sector output in February was better than the decline of 8.5 percent year-on-year witnessed in Spanish industry as a whole.
 
In the apparel segment, output decreased for the fourth consecutive month by 15.4 percent year-on-year in February 2013, the worst since November 2011. In January 2013, garment production had declined by 8.9 percent year-on-year.
 
In the textile segment, output of textile processing companies dipped 5.5 percent, that of yarn manufacturing by 2.5 percent, manufacturing of knitwear by 0.8 percent, and manufacturing of other textiles by 1.6 percent during the month under review.
