Growing demand pushes up spandex prices in China
18
Apr '13
The prices of spandex have increased greatly over the past one month in Chinese domestic market.

For example, the price of spandex 40D has increased by 2,000-3,000 yuan/ton in recent days and it even increased by 1,000 yuan/ton in a single day.

Market analysts believe that the increase in spandex prices is mainly due to growing demand and they expect the recent rally to continue. They foresee the price of spandex 40D touching 50,000 yuan/ton level this year.

The overall spandex market in China is tight. There is no stock of spandex 20D. The demand for spandex is being driven by increasing exports.

The supply of fine denier is also tight and operating rate of factories remains at about 85 percent.

Industry experts opine that the recovery of textile and apparel industry may face a setback in the future due to rising prices of upstream raw materials.

Spandex or elastane is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity. It is strong, but less durable than its major non-synthetic competitor, natural latex.
