After showing an increase in the first two months of the current year, textile and apparel exports from China declined in March 2013.

During the month, Chinese textile and apparel exports fell to US$ 16.72 billion, as global trading environment has not improved much.

Textile exports fetched US$ 7.5 billion, showing a decrease of 11.8 percent year-on-year during the month, whereas apparel exports earned US$ 9.22 billion, down 10.4 percent year-on-year.

According to the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, the year-on-year increase in exports achieved in January and February was due to the low base of last year, as well as due to stockpiling by main markets.

China’s overall textile and garment exports during the first quarter of the current year registered US$ 57.88 billion, showing an increase of 15.7 percent year-on-year. Of this, textile exports, including yarn and fabric, realized US$ 22.57 billion, up 10.4 percent year-on-year, while clothing exports earned US$ 35.31 billion, up 19.4 percent year-on-year.
