Textile2020 members to hold second meeting in Brazil

Members of Textile2020 and representatives of the Brazilian textile industry, who participated in the Tecnotextil Fair2013 held in Sao Paolo, the largest city in Brazil, last month, have now decided to hold a second meeting in Brazil at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2014.

The objective of the next meeting is to bring together interested small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from Europe and Brazil in order to enable discussion and finalization of strategic projects between them. The members will also discuss ideas to help the European industries formulate subsidiaries to deal with the high import taxes of Brazil. Joint ventures are another solution to avoid the high import taxes.

Last month, on the sidelines of the Tecnotextil Fair2013, Representatives of Textile2020 held meetings with government agencies, universities and business support organizations, including the Association of the Brazilian Textiles Industry (ABIT), the Association of the Brazilian Textiles Technicians (ABTT), the Industrial Federation of the State of Sao Paulo (FIESP), the Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP), the Brazilian Agency for the Development of the Industry (ABDI), and Center for Technical Textiles (IPT-CETIM).

Textile2020 is a cluster of firms dealing mainly in advanced textile materials from Europe. It aims to develop and implement a long-term joint international strategy. Its members participate in several trips to Canada, Brazil, Japan, the US and South Korea. The cluster also works to establish some important inter-clustering, business and technology partnerships.

The Tecnotextil Fair2013 is a major event for the Brazilian textile sector. It had 18,600 visitors, mainly stakeholders from the textile sector.
