The Real Economy Commission of the Angolan Cabinet Council met under the chairmanship of the country’s Vice President Manuel Domingos Vicente to discuss the country’s cotton and textile industry.

The Commission has identified the textile chain, including the growing of cotton, as a key focus area as part of the Government’s plan to diversify the country’s economy, Angolan News Agency Angop reported.

The meeting concluded that the Government must give priority to the ongoing renovation and repair at the Textang II fabrics plant in Luanda, as well as to cotton production.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Minister of Economy Abrahão Gourgel said the rehabilitation work at Textang II plant is nearly 80 percent complete.

He added that restoration work is required at two more fabric plants – Satec plant located in Dondo region of northern Kwanza Norte province and Africa Textil plant in central Benguela province, which would be taken up once the ongoing work at Textang II plant gets completed.

He informed that cotton sowing is currently in progress in Kipela region in central Kwanza Sul province.
