Fedecon, AEGP join Spanish textile sector wage deal

The Spanish Federation of Garments (Fedecon) and Spanish Association of Knitwear Manufacturers (AEGP) have changed their stance at the last minute and have now signed the new agreement governing the relationship between employers and workers in the textile industry till December 2013.

A week earlier, the Spanish Intertextil Council (CIE) and textile federations CCOO and UGT reached an agreement related to wage increase for the period January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013. However, Fedecon and AEGP had not agreed to the wage agreement then.

As per the latest agreement, wage increase of 0.8 percent will be retrospectively applicable in 2011, 0.69 percent in 2012 and 0.6 percent in 2013.

The delay by Fedecon and AEGP in accepting the negotiated wages has strengthened the creation of Fashion Spain, a new umbrella organization that is being created to represent all the sectors of the Spanish fashion industry, including footwear and leather sectors.

The board of CIE is going to meet in mid-July to decide its stance to be taken at wage negotiations for the next three years beginning January 1, 2014. The negotiations are to begin in September this year. Fedecon and AEGP would be attending the meeting, according to modaes.es.
