China's cotton yarn imports swell in June 2013

The imports of cotton yarn made by China in June 2013 surged by 34.15 percent year-on-year to 145,300 tons, according to the latest Customs statistics. However, June cotton yarn imports dipped 15.39 percent on a month-on-month basis.
 
In June, China exported 38,000 tons of cotton yarn, showing a decline of 1.72 percent year-on-year and 1.76 percent month-on-month.
 
Thus, China’s net cotton yarn imports during the month stood at 107,300 tons, registering a year-on-year increase of 54.09 percent, but a month-on-month dip of 19.36 percent.
 
During the current cotton season, i.e. from September 2012 till June 2013, China’s total cotton yarn imports stood at 1.542 million tons, which is a rise of 50.4 percent year-on-year, according to the General Administration of Customs.
 
During the same period, China’s cotton yarn exports amounted to 418,400 tons, up 29 percent year-on-year.
 
From January to June 2013, China imported 964,700 tons of cotton yarn, registering an increase of 45.88 percent year-on-year. In comparison, the country exported 262,000 tons of cotton yarn, up 16.21 percent year-on-year.
