The production of cotton in China’s Xinjiang province is likely to decline in 2013-14 season, according to the Xinjiang Agricultural Division.

In 2012-13, cotton was planted on 57 acres, resulting in yield of 60,000 tons.

However, cotton planting area in 2013-14 is estimated to have declined to 40 acres, and the yield is expected to be around 35,000 tons.

In Awati, the main cotton producing area in Xinjiang, cotton is sown on less than 30 acres of land in 2013, and the recent rainfall is not conducive to growth of cotton crop, according to China Cotton Information Network.

In mid-July, most areas of Xinjiang had low temperatures and rainfall, and in some areas, there were heavy rains and floods, accompanied with high winds, which have affected cotton production, China Cotton Association reported based on Xinjiang Metrological Bureau news.
