More than 750 quilts will be on display from across the globe, along with the largest quilter’s merchant mall in Michigan, while visitors can learn from the best in quilting instruction in the AQS School of Quiltmaking.
AQS QuiltWeek celebrates the art of quiltmaking by showcasing the stunning masterpieces created by today’s textile artists. The American Quilter’s Society presents quilters and fabric lovers a chance to explore and enjoy the creativity of quilters from around the world.
By bringing together over 380 booths in the merchant mall, the leading instructors in quilting, more than 750 works of fiber art, and ten special exhibits, including three making their North American Debut, AQS QuiltWeek offers everyone a full and exciting experience.
Returning for the second year, the American Quilter’s Society is eager to celebrate fiber art in Grand Rapids, known as Cool City, Hot Art. The premiere event in 2012 brought so much excitement that Grand Rapids has even moved Restaurant Week to accommodate the celebrating mass of visitors.
Word spread as far away as Australia about the eagerness for quilting in Michigan, and the world is sending the best to the Midwest for AQS QuiltWeek – Grand Rapids, Michigan, August 14–17, 2013.
AQS QuiltWeek – Grand Rapids will host four internationally celebrated exhibits of textile artwork. Twelve by Twelve International Art Quilt Challenge loans its exclusive Colorplay exhibit to AQS.
Coming from Germany, Claudia Pfeil’s The Silk Road Tour makes its North American Debut. Spectacular folk art from the Philippines also enters the international scene in the exhibit Celebrating Quilts – The Caohagan Way. Plus, the Tentmakers of Cairo bring more than 125 new works in Return of Stitch Like an Egyptian.
The high point of the show recognizes the artistry of today’s quiltmakers, as 325 works will compete for more than $44,000 in cash awards. Entries come from 42 states and 6 countries. New to Grand Rapids, the winners of $6,000 in cash and prizes will be announced in the GO! Have Fun Quilt Challenge sponsored by Accuquilt and AQS.
Admission to AQS QuiltWeek includes access to all special exhibitions and the merchant mall. Hours are Wednesday, August 14 through Friday, August 16, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, August 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The American Quilter’s Society is the largest quilting membership organization in the world. For almost 30 years, AQS has been the leading voice in quilting inspiration and advice, through a broad suite of products—magazines, books, live events, contests, workshops, online networks, patterns, fabric, and catalogs. At AQS, we believe that with inspiration and advice, the creatively-minded individual can take their quilting projects beyond what even they had imagined.
