Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, announced that it has signed the declaration of membership of the UN Global Compact. In doing so, the company is emphasizing its all-round commitment to sustainable development and being a good corporate citizen based on the UN initiative’s 10 general principles in human rights, labor, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

Clariant undertakes, within its scope of influence, to advocate the safeguarding of human rights, create working conditions at minimum in line with the law, conserve the environment, and take measures against corruption. The company recognizes and reaffirms that these principles mark out the future scope of action for its strategy, corporate culture, and daily work.

For Clariant, participating in the UN Global Compact signifies a logical complement to and consistent continuation of its sustainability activities and reporting. Membership also permits a dialogue with other stakeholders toward further developing their own sustainability performance.

“With our accession to the UN Global Compact, we are demonstrating, once again, that sustainability is more than a buzzword to us. We are already basing our corporate strategy on long-term, sustainable criteria, in order to continuously enhance Clariant’s economic and ecological value creation,” says CEO Hariolf Kottmann.

Joachim Krüger, Senior Vice President Corporate Sustainability & Regulatory Affairs, adds: “In recent years, we have already made many efforts to rise to the top group of sustainable companies industry-wide. We intend to continuously base our global activities on high ethical standards as regards performance, people, and planet and meet our commitments to UN Global Compact principles in the future as well. At the same time, our commitment to transparency goes without saying.”
