Ethylene prices turned volatile during the fortnight ending July 31, 2013, registering a decline in Asian and the US markets, while showing an increase in the European markets.

Poor demand brought ethylene prices down by about 5 percent in the US market last fortnight compared to the fortnight ending July 15, and the prices were assessed in the range of 53.00 cents/pound to 53.50 cents/pound.

Bearish factors like ample availability and poor support from upstream market resulted in decline of ethylene prices by 3.5 percent in Asian markets during the last fortnight.

In Far East Asian market, ethylene prices were in the range of US$ 1200/ton to US$ 1205/ton, while the prices were in the range of US$ 1225/ton to US$ 1230/ton in the Southeast Asian market, during the fortnight.

However, in Europe, ethylene prices increased due to firm feedstock price, and prices rose by 1.90 percent during the last fortnight to US$ 1320/ton, compared to the fortnight ending July 31.
