The focus of the call for tenders for a partition for the central hall of the Tilburg theatre was laid on modern spirit, creativity and functionality. Samira Boon and Next Architects convinced with a unique synergy of form and colour.

This designer became famous in Japan with her small, multi-purpose and trendy vinyl bags – “Furoshiki Shiki“. Now she achieves a break-through in the Netherlands with a new and much bigger work of art.

She created a breathtaking piece of art in form of a caterpillar to divide the hall and improve the acoustics. The fabric was produced with its remarkable structure and processing, uniting functional and decorative aspects, on a DORNIER rapier weaving machine.

This textile architecture, thirty meter long and three meter high, does not only create perfect acoustics but also accomplish a spectacular optical effect. When the lights are turned off, the processed yarn “glow-in-the-dark” starts to glow in green.

This is caused by the intelligent yarn absorbing and releasing light. In interaction with the hall illumination the visitors can enjoy the concerts as well as a play of colors for the senses.
