TFIA upset over ACCC acceding to union demands

“We will expect a significant submission to government from the ACCC supporting our case for more education, and an end to legislation that allows abuse of power so evident in a sector fearful of Union reprisals if they speak out.” Evans said.

“The textile and fashion industry is a vital sector to the Australian community,” Evans said. “We must have a sustainable industry. Yet it seems government, the regulators and the Union would prefer to watch it all end.”

“Australians are great exporters,” Evans said. “Unfortunately, decisions like this mean, in the TCF industry exports are likely to be jobs.”

“We already see operations closing and moving offshore. Is this what government wants?” Evans asked. “What will the Union do when there are no more TCF workers left to represent? Do they even care their bullying behaviour has a negative impact upon manufacturing investment in Australia?”

“This decision clearly indicates the Government should act to provide a Strategic Action Growth Agenda that will allow all stakeholders to work together for cultural change and plan a sustainable TCF industry,” Evans said. “We need a cultural change away from the old world thinking of the Union and fellow travellers.”
