Asian PTA prices dip last fortnight on soft demand

The prices of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) decreased in Asia, while they remained stable in Europe and the US during the fortnight ending September 30, 2013.
PTA prices were assessed at US$ 1060-1065/ton during the fortnight ending September 30 in the Asian markets, compared to prices of US$ 1070-1080/ton witnessed during the fortnight ending September 15.
The decline in prices was due to bearish feedstock market coupled with weak upstream energy values and soft downstream demand.
Prices declined further and were quoted at US$ 1050/ton in Far East Asian markets and US$ 1055/ton in Southeast Asian countries on October 3, 2013. In India, however, PTA prices were at US$ 1080/ton.
In European markets, PTA prices were assessed at € 905/ton in the last fortnight ending September 30. The prices remained at same level as were quoted during the previous fortnight due to steady buying sentiment.
In the US market, PTA prices showed similar trend as Europe and were marked at 62 cents/pound in the last fortnight, unchanged from the previous fortnight due to firm buying sentiment.
