Spanish textile sector creates new jobs in Sept'13

The textile and apparel sector in Spain has created 1,793 new jobs in September 2013 compared to August, as per the number of people registered with the Seguridad Social (Social Security), modaes.es reported.
The monthly increase in Spanish textile and apparel sector jobs was better than the Spanish economy as a whole, where the total number of jobs declined by 0.3 percent or 46,313 workers from the month of August.
However, on a year-on-year basis, Spanish textile and apparel sector registered a decrease of 3,381 workers or 2.7 percent in September 2013. This decline was lower than the overall fall of 2.9 percent year-on-year recorded by the Spanish economy.
With a total of 123,553 employees, including 20,425 autonomous employees, the textile and apparel sector now accounts for 0.8 percent of the total Spanish workforce, as per the employment statistics.
The garment industry in Spain employed 46,930 registered workers in September, about 3,505 less than the corresponding month of 2012, recording a fall of 2.7 percent year-on-year.
