Ethylene prices continue to rise in Asian markets

The prices of Ethylene continue to show an upward trend in Southeast and Far East Asian markets, due to tight product availability coupled with bullish buying trend.

In Southeast Asia, average Ethylene prices were in the range of US$ 1370-1375/ton during the fortnight ending September 15, 2013. These increased by 3.77 percent to US$ 1425/ton during the fortnight ending September 30. Prices continued to rise further and were assessed at US$ 1460/ton on October 5.

In Far East Asian markets, average prices of Ethylene were marked at US$ 1235-1240/ton in the fortnight ending September 15, and increased by 3.03 percent to US$ 1275/ton in the fortnight ending September 30. On October 5, the prices were offered at US$ 1300/ton.

Meanwhile, Ethylene prices showed downward trend in Europe and the US during the fortnight ending September 30, due to bearish upstream energy value coupled with weak downstream demand.

In Europe, average Ethylene prices were assessed in the range of US$ 1400-1405/ton in the fortnight ending September 30, dip of 4.1 percent from the previous fortnight’s average prices of US$ 1460-1465/ton.

In the US, average Ethylene prices declined by 2.78 percent during the fortnight ending September 30, compared to average price of 54 cents/pound recorded during the previous fortnight.
