The manufacturing industries operating in the Free Trade Zones (FTZs) of the Central American republic of Honduras, known as Maquila, which includes textiles and clothing industries, is expected to earn US$ 3.3 billion in exports, by the end of 2013, according to the Honduras Maquila Association (AHM).

Daniel Facusse, president of AHM, said by the end of 2013, the Maquila industry of the country would earn more than US$ 3.3 billion in exports, reports Honduran newspaper La Prensa.

This year would close with a 4.5 percent increase in textile exports, and would also generate around 124,000 new jobs in the country, he added.

Mr. Facusse said the expectations are positive as the workforce in the Maquila industry is constantly working towards achieving the goal.

The AHM president said that the country’s textile sector has potential to compete internationally, owing to the high quality labor available in Honduras, which translates into manufacturing of better quality products in textile firms.

The AHM is a private sector, non-profit organization, in Honduras, which serves the members of the manufacturing industries operating in FTZs in the country, formed to ensure the sustainability and growth of industries with the aim of maintaining and creating productive jobs, which help increase the country's competitiveness globally.
